Janet Jardine

Education

Janet was born and raised predominantly in Winnipeg having spent four years of her childhood in Dauphin, Manitoba. She enrolled in the U of M Faculty of Law in 1982 after taking 2 years of an undergraduate program at that same university. She graduated with her LLB in 1985 and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1986.

Janet maintains primarily a litigation practice which focuses on Civil Litigation (essentially all matters in the courts other than family and criminal matters, such as commercial disputes, breach of contract, personal injury), Labour and Employment (Labour Board matters, Labour Arbitrations, wrongful dismissal suits, general employment advice, negotiating collective agreements), Administrative Law (commercial arbitrations, federal court matters, and other tribunals, including aboriginal rights tribunals).  Her practice also includes Wills and Estates, including estate litigation.

While still in Law school, Janet co-authored a handbook for the Law Society of Manitoba entitled “Evidence in a Nutshell”.

Janet practiced law for a brief period of time in Vancouver, B.C. in 2002-2003 with a boutique insurance law firm, Stewart & Company.

Janet has appeared in all levels of Court in Manitoba (Provincial Court, Court of King’s Bench, and the Court of Appeal), the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories. She has also appeared in the Federal Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal. In addition, she has appeared before various Boards, Tribunals and Arbitrators.
